Ctrl Alt WoW Episode 49 - The Cycle of WoW

Glanthur and Aprillian discuss the cycle of playing WoW.
Glanthur decides to Dual box.
Contest Winner is announced.

Aprillian has gone back to her roots and has been triple boxing.
Rilfire got a new 2 handed axe. She'd never trained 2 handed Axe. Glanthur suggest going to every city and getting training as soon as possible.

We received a lot of good letters. We enjoy hearing how other altaholics play.

Another contest entrant:

Hello Auho (Aw-ho) here formally level 70 Human paladin of of Gnomeregan, Now level 67 Tauren Bear Tank on Deathwing PVP. First off I would like to say I love your show. It is in my top 5 WoW podcast and I listen to allot of podcasts. It is nice to hear people that are exploring the game still and having fun. With most podcasts you get players that have been 70 for months and the game is more of a thing they do than a thing they play. But on to the reason I wrote:
As I said my main is my level 67 Druid on Deathwing but I only play him with my girlfriend and her level 67 hunter. It has been so nice leveling with her because we don't have to worry about most group quest since we can do them on our own because with her pet we are basically a 3 man group. Grinding quest aren't a chore because I have someone to talk to and help, even though lots of times we have to collect double the mats it just doesn't seem like it takes as long. Also in about a week going to be nice because she just graduated from college and I still have a year and a half left, so WoW gives us something to do together during the week when we can't see each other. Now when she isn't on I either play my 22 warlock or my 24 priest. Since I come from a paladin/feral druid background it is a nice change to play a caster class. Also I love getting my professions up, you were right when you were talking about how exciting it is when your crafting skill levels up and you get to see the new things you get to make. Also I do them because of the great craft able epic sets you can make when you are high level in your profession. My druid has 350 leatherworking and 375 skinning and one of my goals after getting him to 70 is getting his leatherworking up the rest of the way. Both my warlock and priest have tailoring and if I play them enough I hope to get their skill up to 375. Also sense I have read allot about the game and mods like to watch the trade and general channels when I am in a capital city to see if I can answer anyone's questions. I have made quite a few new friends doing this since people that are new to the game don't really know where to look for help. Well that is all thank you for the great podcast and have a great day.
Auho 67 Tauren Druid
Auhjo 24 Undead Priest
Alima 22 Blood Elf Warlock
Auho 70 Human Paladin
(lol yeah my mains have the same name and I have an "A" theme going on)

Contest Submissions

First Letter:

I'm Sagala, and I'm an alt-aholic. Lol. I've been playing since WoW first went live, and I have a total of 20 alts. 10 on two servers. I think I'm a combination of both you and Glanthur in my play style, though. I love to explore new areas and experience everything I can in the game, but when I get focused I can get so much stuff done in the game. On one of my servers, I have a level 70 warrior, 64 priest, 64 hunter, 64 warlock, 62 rogue, 61 paladin, and a 44 mage. As you can see, I played there quite a bit. That was the server I started from the beginning on, and after the first level 60 character, I just decided that focusing on one single character was kind of boring to me, and I wanted to experience more in the game, so I started an alt, and while that one was being leveled, I paid more attention to the order of the quests, where to get them, the best places to grind, etc so I could go back with my third, forth, first, etc.. and level them up as quickly as possible. I think it was an excellent thing for me to do because I got a better understanding of how each class works, and what their roles are in instances and groups. Like with my priest, I know how to heal a warrior better because I've been main tank before. And vice verca…I know how to play my warrior to make life a little easier on healers. So anyway, I'm rambling…Fast forward to last march…I got a new job and found a bunch of co-workers that play together on the same server, so I asked them what they needed most, and they said they needed a tank, so I leveled another warrior to 70 just to play with them…lol. That's kind of sad, isn't it? J So anyway, I'm doing the same thing on this server as I did with my old one.. in fact, I only leveled 2 alts past 40, but I have the others already made so I can start them whenever I want. I've never tried dual boxing, though and I think it sounds really interesting and a new twist to gameplay that I haven't been able to experience yet. That's why I hope you select me for the winner J If I enjoy it, I'll start up another account J Thanks so much for reading, and I love the podcast.. I listen all the time at work.

Aprillian Goes to MacWorld

Show 48 is still being worked on. Aprillian went to MacWorld which meant that she and Glanthur not only wouldn’t be recording in the same room, this time they wouldn’t even be in the same Time Zone. This caused a slight problem because while Aprillian was up and ready to record Episode 48 from her hotel room in San Francisco a little after 8pm, it was after 11pm for Glanthur and he had just completed a hard day of work.

We got about 20 mins into the podcast when my connection collapsed, all those people coming to MacWorld sucking up the bandwidth. By the time I got back, Glanthur was beat. We will finish it by Monday, I hope.

I just want to welcome any listeners who joined us from MacWorld. It was a great time for me.

What Aprillian has been doing:

Mostly watching the AH, keeping the alliance AH stocked with overpriced Horde pets. Someone asked my level 1 alt how she got all of her pets. I laughed and said, what would you do with the information? Well we know the answer to that, become my competition. I need that 20 to 50 gold a week to buy supplies for my Horde characters. Arcane Crystals that go for 15 to 20 gold on the Horde side can be bought for less than 5 or 6 gold on the alliance. But I did mention this podcast and tell her that if she listens to it, I tell her how to get it. So I’ll repeat it for anyone who is new to Ctrl Alt WoW. You need either two accounts or a friend you can trust. You buy the pets on the Horde side for 50s, 45s if you’re honored by that cities faction, then you sell them to yourself on a 2nd account or a friend, using the neutral AH in Booty Bay, Gadgetzan or Everlook. I have three accounts so I can do it by myself (boy that doesn’t sound right). I set the price at 1s so my other account doesn’t waste money. Remember, every time you sell something on the AH, Blizz takes 15%. But with the price so low, you have to do the transaction really fast and even then someone just doing a search can snatch it from you. I usually put the item name in search field and hit return and then put the item up on the other account and set up the auction. Then I instantly switch over and hit search on the buyer AH screen and buy as fast as I can. I also do one other thing to prevent my neutral AH character from flying back and forth. I have a level 1 alt in a major city and mail the pets to them; items mailed to toons on the same account go instantly. There’s the secret.
